I had planned to bring my nephew and nieces on a trip and sought their feedback by conducting a poll for the proposed trip dates. Another poll followed on their preference between hillside and seaside. They all agreed to travel on 21 to 23 September and on seaside. I tried searching for alternatives for full-board packages but finally settled on Pangkor Laut Resort again. At the kids’ relentless question of where we were going, I sent them a simple Treasure Hunt-like riddle for them to solve.
We left
just before 10:00 and after a pitstop to use the facilities, we arrived at Pangkor
Marina just before 13:00. We unloaded the car and I went to check in. There
were many other guests already there and my niece then told me the resort would
be full for the duration of our stay. As we still had time, I went to perform
prayers first.
Our boat
left at 14:00 and we arrived about 20 minutes later but not before the boat we
were on was rocked by a strong and high wave. It may have been caused by the
naval boat which was alongside our boat just before the big wave. Thankfully no
one threw up their breakfast then. We went to the lobby and after making dinner
and recording room reservation, we headed for the Royal Bay Beach Club for
lunch. The service was a bit slow and I even got up to get the pitcher and serve
ourselves because the crew didn’t refill our glasses. We had to return to the
lobby after lunch to get our room keys and then walk back past the Royal Bay
Beach Club as our rooms this time were behind the tennis and basketball courts
instead of where we stayed last year. We didn’t get adjoining rooms this time
but one room below another. My niece chose the upper room and it was smaller
than the room at the lower level.
The kids
had already planned to go swimming in both the pool and the sea that very
afternoon so I was left to my own devices. I read my book, sorted out my
clothes and showered. They came back just before 19:00 and we made our way to
Feast Village for dinner. It was drizzling then and there were people partying at
the Royal Bay Beach Club so we had to take another route. We briefly checked
out the movie room before returning to our rooms.
We woke
to a rainy Friday morning and it continued until about 10:00. After breakfast,
we made our way to the Recording Room and had karaoke session. We left at 12:30
(no chance of overstaying when the resort staff came to sanitise the room!) and
went to the Games Room below. We then returned to the room before heading out
again for lunch at Chapman’s Bar. There was a wedding that evening and we
watched the event set-up with interest. I returned to the room after lunch while
the kids stayed on to swim in the sea. I went for an evening stroll to the Sea
Villas before returning to the room.
Dinner
that evening was had at Uncle Lim’s Kitchen and we all enjoyed our meal. Compared
to the dinner at the old Uncle Lim’s Kitchen, this was delivered at much better
speed. I once left without remembering I had yet to have my dessert because the
service was so slow at the old Uncle Lim’s Kitchen.
Saturday
morning dawned clear and bright and I went for a walk past the Sea Villas, the
old Uncle Lim’s Kitchen and Spa Village and to Spa Villas before turning back. My
nephew and one of the girls went for a swim and I finished packing then as I didn’t
intend to return to the room after breakfast. I then headed for breakfast and
had a leisurely breakfast. To my disappointment, the menu was almost similar as
the morning before (except for the Malay kuihs) and I didn’t eat much as a result.
We then rested at the library before making our way to the boat for our 11:30
departure.
Goodbye,
Pangkor Laut Resort. Not sure if there’ll be a fifth visit for me.
